Monotype Rewrites Style Rules with Fresh Cast

New additions to the Monotype library span a versatile script, bold sans serif, textured calligraphic design, and font inspired by classic cinema.

Monotype has added to its library with the debut of a series of fresh typefaces. Designed to cater to the needs of creative professionals, the selections include a textured and hand-down calligraphic style, vibrant sans serif, hybrid script family, and classic cinema design.

The new entries and others released this year are available to customers via Mosaic, the marque’s cloud-based font service via which businesses can discover, manage, share, and deploy fonts. Individual licenses can also be purchased online through the MyFonts portal.

The first, Placard Next, is a reimagined version of a 1930s poster design. The collection combines details and quirks of the original to proffer a refined Mnotype update for digital use. Amarone submits sophistication with textures and rough edges for editorial appeal.

Next on the latest Monotype lineup is Malden Sans, a cheeky pick inspired by Hollywood’s history. Drawing on a bygone era, the style exudes a devil-may-care swag and embraces imperfection. Finally, Elicit Script packs the versatility to transition from casual to formal.

“We always strive to create beautiful typefaces. I’m proud of the designers, font engineers, language experts, and partners who contributed to our library this year. We look forward to more great designs in the year ahead,” said Tom Rickner, Director of Monotype Studio.
