The Americas Edition of the prestigious World Branding Awards saw 81 brands from 16 countries and territories named “Brand of the Year” in their respective categories in a glittering ceremony held at The Plaza on Fifth Avenue in New York City today.
Global tier winners were Amazon, Apple, Coca-Cola, Colgate, Facebook, Gillette, Google, Marriott, McCain, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Mission, Nike, Pampers, Starbucks, UPS and Visa.
National tier winners included Prüne (Argentina), Banco Mercantil Santa Cruz (Bolivia), Unimed (Brazil), Manulife (Canada), Banco de Chile (Chile), El Corral (Colombia), BNCR (Costa Rica), Planeta Azul (Dominican Republic), Supercines (Ecuador), Wray and Nephew (Jamaica), BBVA Bancomer (Mexico), super99 (Panama), Superseis (Paraguay), BCP (Peru), Banco Popular (Puerto Rico), and Ford (United Sates), amongst others.
Seen as the ultimate global brand recognition accolade, winners are uniquely judged through three streams: brand valuation, consumer market research, and public online voting. Consumer voting counts for 70% of the scoring process.
“The participation of 22 countries from the Americas and the Caribbean shows the importance of branding today. This brings the total number of participating countries and territories of the awards to 55,” said Richard Rowles, Chairman of the World Branding Forum.
“This edition saw over 80,000 consumers vote for more than 1,500 brands. However, only 81 brands from 16 countries were awarded, demonstrating the high standards required to win at these awards,” said Peter Pek, Chief Executive of the Forum.
Hosted by comedian Moody McCarthy, the awards is organised by the World Branding Forum, a global non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing branding standards for the good of the branding community as well as consumers.
It organises and sponsors a range of educational programmes and has joint collaborations with leading universities and museums. The Forum also publishes branding news on its website that reaches a global audience of over 22 million.
