Audi has been on a global roll, with sales rising in all key regions and the brand’s prestige on the rise as a worldwide rival to BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Sales have been increasing for the Volkswagen-owned premium marque in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. In China, for example, sales rose by 10 percent in July. European sales gains for Audi have been solid as the auto market continues its recovery. The new family of midsize sedans, A5, and the latest Audi SUV, the compact Q2, were off to strong starts around the world.
And in the United States, Audi achieved the remarkable milestone in August of posting its 80th consecutive monthly sales gain, year-over-year. American car-buyers were clustering toward the new version of the Audi Q5 crossover, which is built in Mexico, as well as to its Q7 large SUV.
Deliveries in the US of the new A5 coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet, more than tripled in August.
“We are in the midst of our biggest product rollout in our US history and consumers are responding to the designs, the technology and the brand’s reputation for dependability,” Cian O’Brien, chief operating office for Audi of America, said in a press release.
A couple of Audi’s multi-year brand platforms in the US have been vital to the brand’s growth. One is its association with the Emmy Awards telecast, which entered its sixth year in 2016. Global attention to the annual glitzy television awards show created excitement around the latest Audi models and features and enhances appreciation of its “progress through technology” positioning.
Audi also benefited its partnership with Marvel to put its fastest and sleekest vehicles in the Iron Man movie series. That highly successful platform has associated Audi with speed and technology. And the brand was able to extend the association in one of the blockbuster pairings of the summer by featuring the 2018 Audi A8 in Spider Man: Homecoming which hit theaters worldwide in July.
Looking ahead, Audi is hoping to excite consumers about the future once true self-driving technology is available and on the roads with the Aicon, an autonomous concept car making its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany (Sept. 14-24)—take a peek below.
